Amazing Grace and Chuck

Chuck is a twelve year-old boy in Livingston, Montana, and the star pitcher of his Little League team. One day he is taken to see a nearby missile silo and is so horrified that he decides to give up the most important thing in his life-baseball-as a protest against nuclear weapons.

Amazing Grace Smith is a basketball superstar for the Boston Celtics who hears about Chuck, goes to visit him, and decides to follow his example. He gives up his career and million-dollar contract. Other athletes and children follow until there is a full-fledged protest movement that even spreads to Russia. Both the President of the United States and the Russian leader are forced to negotiate with the rebels and with each other.
