Bethany Yellowtail is a Native American fashion designer who uses clothing to celebrate and share her culture with the world.
Bethany Yellowtail was born in 1989 in Wyola, a small town in southeastern Montana, and she grew up on the Crow Reservation as a citizen of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe with strong family ties to the Crow Nation. Her aunties and grandmother taught her to sew and bead, and as a teenager she made powwow shawls and clothes before studying fashion at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. After working for big fashion companies, she started her own brand, B.Yellowtail, in 2015 so she could design dresses, skirts, and accessories that show real Native patterns and stories in a respectful way. She also created the B.Yellowtail Collective to help other Native artists sell their handmade jewelry, bags, and quilts, and she supports Indigenous girls through programs like the Rez Girl Mentorship Fund.
