Each of the following questions show just how long it takes to make the honey for your cornbread.

1. To gather one pound of honey, a bee must travel a distance equal to at least 3 times around the world. How many miles will it travel if the distance around the equator equals 24,900 miles? ________________

2. It takes 160,000 bee-hours to produce one pound of pure-ripened honey. How many hours would it take to make 1/2 pound of honey? _________________

3. Using the information from problem 1, figure out how many miles a bee must travel to make five pounds of honey. ______________________

4. Using the information in problem 2, figure out how many bee-hours it would take to make 6 pounds of honey. ____________________

5. A honeybee must make approximately 154 trips to and from his hive to produce a teaspoon of honey. How many trips would it take to make one tablespoon of honey? (hint: 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon) ________________________

6. Using the information given in problem 5, how many trips would a honeybee make to and from his hive to make 1 cup of honey? (hint: 16 tablespoons = 1 cup) ___________________

1. 74,700 miles

2. 80,000 hours

3. 373,500 miles

4. 960,000 hours

5. 462 trips

6. 7,392 trips
