People and Jobs
Farmers and ranchers make up about five percent of the total population in Montana and 17 percent hold agriculture related jobs. Most of these farms and ranches are still family owned and operated. Some have been passed from generation to generation since the 1800s! Farmers and ranchers take good care of the land because they care about passing it on to their children. Since they use the land for their livelihood, they must preserve it. Not all Montanans are cowboys, farmers, or ranchers, though!
