Montana State License Plate
Updated: August 10, 2020
Montana drivers can choose from a number of license plates, ranging from the standard plate to designs that reflect their military service or show their support for a Montana college or community organization.
The current standard plate was issued beginning in January 2010. The minimalist design features white on blue lettering, which has not been used since 1975. Last used in 1966, it reads "Treasure State" across the top. The "dot" between a county prefix and the plate number is the familiar silhouette of an animal's skull. The state map outline around the plate is required by state law.
