David Lynch was born in Missoula, Montana, on January 20, 1946. He is an American filmmaker, artist, and musician best known for the movies The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive, and for creating the TV show Twin Peaks. As a boy he moved often because of his father's job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and he became an "Eagle" Scout; he even helped as an usher at President John F. Kennedy's inauguration when he was a teenager. After studying film in Los Angeles, Lynch spent several years making his first feature film, Eraserhead, which led to a long career of unusual and creative movies and shows. Lynch has been nominated several times for Academy Awards and won major prizes at the Cannes and Venice film festivals, but he once joked that he could sum himself up in just four words: "Eagle Scout. Missoula, Montana."
