Pirogue Island State Park

Pirogue Island

This typical cottonwood-covered Yellowstone River island provides a natural haven for waterfowl, bald eagles, and white-tailed and mule deer. Wildlife viewing, fishing for sauger, river floating, and Montana moss agate hunting are popular activities. Though there are no designated hiking trails, the site is level and easily walked throughout the entire 269 acres.

At 2,371 feet in elevation, this site has no formal development and care is needed when crossing side channels. Crossing is not recommended if water is flowing. Lightweight crafts should be hand launched for boating. There are no fees at this day use only site and a golf course and two museums are located nearby in Miles City.
